INSTRUMENT FLIGHT® and PSO-Match™

with KBA QualiTronic/ErgoTronic Color Control

QualiTronic Color measuring camera

The KBA measuring systems with inline measurement/control are grouped under the generic term "QualiTronic". This system measures directly in the press and provides fully automatic control of the selected parameters on the run according to defined targets.

The KBA measuring systems with online measurement/control are grouped under the generic term "ErgoTronic and ColorDrive". After measuring outside the press, the system makes a control suggestion that the printer can accept by pressing a button. Adjustments of the parameters are made directly via online connection to the control console.

With the basic equipment of QualiTronic /ErgoTronic, color control is only done in accordance with the individual solid ink densities of each ink.

However, thanks to the partnership with System Brunner, more enhanced color control solutions, completely integrated in the control console are available to the user.

INSTRUMENT FLIGHT® with QualiTronic / ErgoTronic

INSTRUMENT FLIGHT is the top solution regarding efficiency, functionality and quality and is based on the proven System Brunner multidimensional color/gray balance control strategy which with its indirect image control assures optimal color consistency using defined print standards. More than 30 print influencing variables with all measured variables defined in the standard including gray balance and L*a*b* color loci are taken into account in every ink key. The influences of materials are compensated for which achieves optimal visual match with the standardized proof. The process diagnosis informs in real time how good the conformity to the defined print standard is, thus supporting the printer in process optimization.

Prerequisites:
• Qualitronic Inline ink density measurement and control
and/or
• External spectral reference scan device (ErgoTronic or Color Drive)

Balance Navigator®
Recommend Color-/Gray Balance prioritized ink corrections for each ink key in every printing unit are automatically adjusted in closed loop with QualiTronic

The most important features and functions:

  • Selection of the stored print standard (PSO, Globalstandard, G7®, house standard) and the Balance Control Priority™
  • Color control carried out in accordance with all the parameters defined in the standard using special System Brunner Color-/Gray balance algorithm and L*a*b* targets, whereby more than 30 influencing variables are taken into account
  • Automatic adjustment of the solid tone target densities in accordance with the smallest ∆E to the L*a*b* reference
  • A selection of 5 different Balance Control Priorities™ (gray balance priority, ISO/PSO, G7®, solid balance, GCR)
  • Display of the color/gray balance related control recommendations for every inking zone and printing unit
  • Taking over balance/contrast settings from one page for others
  • Display of solid ink densities, tonal value increase/CMY spread, gray balances, 5-star rating at a glance in the Hexagon diagram
  • Display of the deviations ∆L*, ∆a*b*, TVI to the reference at a glance
  • Balance Navigator® for fast and repeatable color/tonal value corrections in closed loop mode
  • Display of PSO evaluation as % value for every measurement
  • OK sheet definition and control in every inking zone in accordance with the target values of the OK sheet
  • Editor for defining house standards

Benefits: efficiency – economy – flexibility - quality

  • Efficient adherence to print standards in day-to-day production
  • Color control always the same regardless of the printer
  • After every measurement the printer can see whether the selected standard is within the tolerances or where any significant deviations may be
  • Optimal color stability over the run, better reproducibility of the print results, better visual conformity with the standardized proof
  • Reduced makeready times and materials consumption
  • A link between prepress and the pressroom for better communication
  • Rapid process diagnostics saves time and reduces costs
  • Knowing how the different consumable materials and machine settings influence the print result saves time and reduces costs
  • Quality log (individual measurements and entire run) under development
  • In-depth training and optimization guidance by System Brunner

PSO-Match™

with QualiTronic / ErgoTronic

PSO-Match focuses on controlling the defined measured variables in accordance with ISO 12647-2/PSO during printing, based on System Brunner process technology. While solid ink density control solutions only control a small part of PSO, PSO-Match also includes solid ink densities with L*a*b* color locus, tonal value increase in the mid-tones and mid-tone spread and keeps these in an optimal balance. This control provides the best possible compensation for maintaining the ISO/PSO target values and tolerances, providing that process calibration has been produced for the press and materials combination.

Prerequisites:
• Inline ink density measurement and control (QualiTronic)
and/or
• External spectral reference scan device (ErgoTronic or Color Drive)

Features and functions:

  • Selection of the stored PSO standard
  • Color control carried out in accordance with the criteria defined in PSO using special System Brunner Balance algorithm
  • Automatic adjustment of the solid tone target densities in accordance with the smallest ∆E to the L*a*b* reference
  • Solid ink densities, tonal value increases/CMY-spread, color balance of the individual colors shown at a glance
  • Deviations to ∆L*, ∆a*b*, tonal value increases over the reference shown at a glance
  • PSO evaluation as a % value with every measurement
  • OK-sheet definition and control in every inking zone in accordance with the target values of the OK-sheet
  • Editor for defining house standards

 Benefits:

  • Efficient use of PSO in day-to-day production
  • Color control always the same regardless of the printer
  • After every measurement the printer can see whether the tolerances of PSO are maintained or where any significant deviations may be
  • Automatic and better compliance with PSO through System Brunner Balance algorithm
  • Reduced makeready times and materials consumption
